What is JI ?

Joint Implementation (JI) refers to an activity provided for in Article 6 of the "Kyoto Protocol" adopted at the Third Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP3), countermeasure for preventing global warming. (Kyoto Mechanism)
Under the JI scheme, an ERU (an Emission Reduction Unit) is granted to an Annex I Party (investing developed country) that conducts an anti-global warming project in another Annex I Party (hosting developed country), and the emission reduction is additional to any that would otherwise occur in the absence of the project activity. The ERU credits acquired through the project are shared between the two participating countries.
The procedure for earning ERU credits through the JI scheme varies by whether the project site (hosting country) is eligible for the Kyoto mechanism (capable of accurately determining the level of greenhouse gas emissions in the country, and other requirements).

Track 1 :
Where it is considered a host party meets the eligibility requirements, the host party may issue the appropriate quantity of ERU.
Track 2 :
Where it is considered a host party at least meets the eligibility requirements (a) (b) (c) in paragraph 32 of Annex in Decision 9/CMP1. In order to guarantee the accuracy, third party Determination of PDD and Verification of ERUs are required.
JQA is responsible for Determination of PDD and Verification of ERUs on JI-related activities.
JQA shall make available internal procedures for carrying out its functions including, among others, procedures for the allocation of responsibilities within the organization and for handling complaints, and the fundamental policy to improve confidence in the JI Assessment Scheme.
