Electrical Appliance and Material Safety Law

As a authorized conformity assessment body by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) under the Electrical Appliance and Material Safety Law, JQA started to provide conformity assessment services of specified electrical appliances and materials in April 2001. Manufacturer or importer of electrical appliances and materials specified in this law are required to obtain certification documents from an authorized conformity assessment body. The necessary certificate of conformity assessment can be obtained by application to JQA.

Foreign manufacturers cannot directly obtain such certificate of conformity assessment according to the law, but they can obtain documents equivalent to certificate of conformity assessment (hereafter documentation of conformity) from JQA.
In addition to its conformity assessment services, JQA also provides six support services for procedures involved under the Electrical Appliance and Material Safety Law. We encourage the manufacturer or importer of specified or non-specified appliances and materials to make use of these services.
