History

1957
Established as Japan Machinery and Metals Inspection Institute (JMI), a designated inspection body under the Export Inspection Law.
1958
  • Started inspection in the fields of electronics and machinery.
1961
  • Started interference radiation testing based on the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations in the USA.
1962
  • Started overseas safety conformity testing based on the standards of UL (USA) and CSA (Canada) under the MOU contracts.
1963
  • Started calibration of measuring instruments.
1972
Changed the name to JMI Institute.
1973
  • Started verification of measuring instruments under the Measurement Law.
1979
  • Started testing of construction materials.
1990
  • Started certification based on ISO 9000 series (Quality).
1993
Changed the name to “Japan Quality Assurance Organization (JQA)”.
  • Started service for standard supply under the Measurement Law (traceability system) as a designated calibration body.
1994
  • Joined IQNet (former EQNet), the international network of management system certification bodies of major countries.
  • Started service for standard supply under the Measurement Law (traceability system) as an accredited operational body.
1995
  • Started certification based on ISO 14001 (Environment).
  • Started the S-JQA mark certification of product safety.
1997
  • Accredited as a JIS testing laboratory under the Japan National Laboratory Accreditation System (JNLA).
1999
  • Accepted as a national certification body (NCB) by the IECEE under the IECEE-CB scheme.
2000
  • Accredited as a calibration laboratory by A2LA, an accreditation body in the USA.
  • Joined Asia Network Forum (ANF), the international network of product testing and certification bodies in Asia.
2001
  • Started inspection of portable laser application devices under the Consumer Product Safety Law.
  • Started inspection of specified electrical appliance and material under the Electrical Appliance and Material Safety Law.
  • Started certification based on ISO/TS 16949 (Automotive).
  • Started certification based on JIS Q 9100 (Aerospace).
2002
  • Started certification based on TL 9000 (Telecommunications).
  • Started certification based on ISO/IEC 27001 (former ISMS; Information Security)
2004
  • Started validation, verification and certification of Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects as the world’s first Designated Operational Entity (DOE) for CDM by the UNFCCC.
2005
  • Started certification of controlled medical equipment under the Pharmaceutical Affairs Law.
  • Started JIS Mark certification under the Industrial Standardization Law (JIS).
  • Started verification of the amount of Green House Gas emissions under domestic schemes.
  • Started certification based on ISO 22000 (Food Safety).
  • Started certification based on ISO 13485 (Medical Devices).
2006
  • Started certification based on ISO 20000 (IT Service).
2009
  • Started development of safety verification/testing methodology on personal care robots, as a part of the project of New Energy and Industrial Technology Organization (NEDO).
2010
  • Started certification based on ISO 22301 (former BS 25999; Business Continuity).
2011
Changed the corporate status to a general incorporated foundation with the laws concerning the reform of public-interest corporations.
  • Started certification based on ISO 50001 (Energy).
  • Started certification based on FSSC 22000 (Food Safety).
  • Started evaluation and certification of functional safety.
2012
  • Started certification based on ISO 26262 (Functional Safety for Road Vehicles).
  • Started certification based on ISO 39001 (Road Traffic Safety).
2013
  • Established JQA Asia (Thailand) Co.,Ltd. in Bangkok, Thailand.
  • Started calibration of vacuum gauges.
  • Started certification based on ISO 13482 (Personal Care Robots Safety).
2014
  • Started Registration of Product Certification (RPC) under the Taiwan-Japan Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA).
  • Established Representative Office of Japan Quality Assurance Organization in Hanoi, Vietnam.
2015
  • Relocated Safety & EMC Center and Measurement & Calibration Center from Kinuta, Satagaya, Tokyo to Minamiosawa, Hachioji-shi, Tokyo.
2016
  • Yokohama Test Laboratory opened.
2018
  • Started green energy certification <business transfer from Institute of Energy Economics, Japan IEE) >.
  • Started service as a designated calibration agency under the Japanese Radio Law.
  • Fukushima and Hiroshima offices opened.
  • Established JQA EURO Office in Essen, Germany.
  • Established JQA Calibration Vietnam Co., Ltd. in Hanoi.
2019
  • Started EMC testing service for Automotive equipments.
2021
  • Chubu Test Center relocated and expanded, due to increasing demand.
  • Received first ISO/IEC 17043 accreditation (field of calibration) in Japan and started calibration proficiency testing services.
2022
  • DSP Research Inc. (DSPR) became a group company.
